Greetings from Orlando!

I made it!  It’s 8:42 am Florida time (if we had Boot Camp on Wednesday mornings you’d already be 12 minutes in :).
As most of you know, I’m in Orlando this week- at the airport.  Seriously.  The hotel is right in the terminal.  No need to go outside (though of course I will!).  I’m here for “Mega-Training”, and annual conference/ training events for all the peeps in my fitness business course.  While I’m away, all Boot Camps are a go, under the capable leadership of our FANTASTIC Ascend team: Gordon, Carleen and Jane.  This is a big deal for me- in previous years I had to cancel everything while away.
My travels so far have reminded me of how important it is to be prepared so you can keep healthy while away. Here’s a few tips for healthy travels:
1. Pack snacks.  So I wouldn’t be dependent on airport or airplane fare, I packed healthy protein bars in my carry-on (my fave is the Vega Coconut Chocolate bars).  I enjoyed one as my afternoon snack en route to LA when I felt the need to eat.  Since I can’t pack fresh produce without much hassle when crossing the border, an apple is out.
2. Pack your comforts on the plane.  My flight from LA to Orlando left at 10pm, and arrived at 5:45am (that’s 2:45 PST).  I needed to sleep.  I packed cozy slippers to keep my feet warm and a neck pillow.  I should have packed a blanket and an extra layer.  The airline was out of blankets and it was freezing on the plane!
3. Remember your workout gear.  By 6:30am I was at the hotel- and no room to check into til the afternoon.  I changed to my workout gear for a sweat session at the gym.  It may seem a bit over the top to workout after 2 and a half hours of sleep- but it is the best way to wake up!  After a dip in the pool, I’m ready to take on the day!
4. Make most of the current situation.  I had planned to get a whole wheat breakfast sandwich from Starbucks this morning.  They didn’t have any.  Next stop was McDonalds.  Their Egg McMuffin has 300 calories, and 18g of protein; not a bad alternative.
I have a few more hours now to relax and do a bit of frivolous reading.  When I’m done my current read I’ll hit the airport book store for another.  Any recommendations?
Have a ROCKIN’ week!
