COURSE OVERVIEW
The number of people living with Parkinson’s Disease is rapidly rising and the amount of relevant research on exercise and Parkinson’s has skyrocketed. This course will use a combination of lectures and practical work to provide practitioners with the information and tools needed to develop effective research based exercise treatment programs for people living with Parkinson’s Disease.
COURSE GOALS & LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Participants will learn about the research surrounding exercise and Parkinson’s Disease
- Why specific exercise is a key component of treatment for this population
- How to build effective exercise based treatment programs
- Practical tools to help develop an effective assessment
- Key components to developing a group class
- How to educate and motivate this population clinically

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Naomi Casiro, BSc. (Kin), MPT, Certified PWR! Therapist
Naomi Casiro is a Physiotherapist and the owner of NeuroFit BC, a Physiotherapy practice focused solely on treating people living with Parkinson’s Disease. She is a certified PWR! Therapist and has completed both basic and advanced level postgraduate training in the Bobath concept.
Prior to becoming a Physiotherapist, Naomi practiced as a Kinesiologist and personal trainer which is where her inspiration to help clients build healthy balanced lives through exercise began.
Naomi strives to combine the worlds of exercise and neuro-rehab to give clients with neurological conditions a more holistic approach to health and recovery. She is passionate about helping people with Parkinson’s fight back against the disease and live their lives to the fullest now and in the future. Currently she runs adventure events and group classes, teaches seminars and courses, and provides 1:1 treatment sessions in the Vancouver, North Vancouver and Burnaby areas. When not pursuing her passions in Physiotherapy Naomi can be found racing in the pool, exploring movement through martial arts or baking up vegan treats in the kitchen.
